Telluschool-koulumme kuitenkin toimivat ja oppilailla riittää intoa opiskeluun kaksin verroin, kun päiväkoulu on tauolla.

Hotels have closed their doors, schools are not operating, streets, restaurants and shops are totally empty, and in the evenings inhabitants must shut themselves in their homes under a curfew.

On musertavaa kuulla, miten lannistettuja ihmiset ovat: "Vie kauan, että tilanne korjaantuu, kuten oli sisällissodankin jälkeen...ja tsunamin".
Vaikka meistä jotka maassa vierailemme voi tuntua, että ainakin tsunamin jälkeen maa "pääsi jaloilleen" suht nopeasti, emme silti voi kuin arvailla heidän henkilökohtaisia tuntemuksiaan ja kipujaan tällä hetkellä.
Puhelin- ja internetlinjat ovat todella huonossa jamassa, osittain suljettukin. Yhteydenpito onnistuu ihan satunnaisesti sieltä tänne ja toisin päin.
Citizens have no work after the disapperance of tourists. One cannot sleep at night while the lack of livelihood troubles the mind. It is devastating to hear how put down people are: ”It will take a long time to remedy the situation, as was the case after the civil war...and the tsunami.”
Even though we who visit the country may feel that after the tsunami the country ”got back on its feet” relatively quickly, we cannot but guess their personal feelings and pains at the moment. Phone and internet lines are really poor, partly shut down even. Communication succeeds only occasionally from there to here and the other way round.
Nyt on rantatyöntekijöillä aikaa korjailla aurinkotuoleja ja muita kalusteita. Se vaan ei anna elantoa kenellekään, kun turistit puuttuvat.
Now beach workers have time to repair sun loungers and other pieces of furniture. However, it will not provide any income to anybody because the tourists are missing.
Kalastajat käyvät yhä yöllisillä kalareissuillaan ja saavat näin perheelleen ja naapureilleen terveellistä ruokaa pihassa kasvavien vihannesten, hedelmien ja yrttien lisäksi.

In Sri Lanka wurde ein Jahrzehnt des Friedens zerstört und das ganze Land leidet. Bei Bombenanschlägen auf katholische Christen werden täglich Menschen getötet, auch heute noch.
Hotels haben ihre Türen geschlossen, Schulen sind nicht in Betrieb, Straßen, Restaurants und Geschäfte sind völlig leer, und abends müssen sich die Bewohner aufgrund einer Ausgangssperre in ihren Häusern einschließen.

Die Bürger haben nach dem Verschwinden der Touristen keine Arbeit mehr. Man kann nachts nicht schlafen, während der Mangel an Lebensunterhalt den Verstand beunruhigt. Es ist verheerend zu hören, wie niedergeschlagen die Menschen sind: "Es wird lange dauern, die Situation zu verbessern, wie es nach dem Bürgerkrieg der Fall war ... und dem Tsunami."
Auch wenn wir, die wir das Land besuchen, das Gefühl haben, dass das Land nach dem Tsunami relativ schnell wieder auf die Beine gekommen ist, können wir ihre persönlichen Gefühle und Schmerzen im Moment nur erraten. Die Fischer unternehmen nach wie vor nächtliche Angeltouren und erhalten so neben dem Gemüse, Obst und den Kräutern, die auf dem Hof wachsen, auch gesundes Essen für ihre Familien und Nachbarn.
Vor ungefähr einer Woche schrieb ich in meiner Geschichte über eine Tüte mit fünf Cent, die ich von einem alten Mann erhalten hatte, dass es eine Menge Gutes auf der Welt gibt. Und so ist es auch.
Aber. Ach, dieses Übel, das jetzt hier und jetzt dort auf der ganzen Welt auftaucht. Man fühlt sich angesichts dessen ziemlich machtlos.
