Suruakin perheessä Sorrow in the family



Ystäväperheemme isoisä, atsi, oli sairastanut jo pitkään, kunnes viikko sitten nukkui pois.
Sri Lankassa vainajan saattaminen viimeiseen leposijaansa kestää useita päiviä, 3-4pv.
Hänet laitetaan omaan kotiinsa kauniisti puettuna valkoiselle pedille (josta lopuksi taitetaan reunat ylös ja näin siitä saadaan arkku). Tässäkin savitalossa makuusija mahtui juuri ja juuri ainoaan huoneeseen. Omaiset, sukulaiset ja koko kylän väki käyvät jättämässä viimeisen tervehdyksen vainajalle, jonka jälkeen vainaja saatetaan hautaan. Ystäväperheemme isä Dilip valvoi koko ajan isänsä lähellä hautaanlaskuun saakka.
Hautajaiset kaikkinensa ovat tosi kalliit suhteessa siihen, mitä siellä yleisesti on rahaa käytössä. Myös esim. kukat, valot, suitsukkeet, öljyt ja tuulettimet kuuluvat asiaan. Talonväki kustantaa myös tarjoamiset hyvästijättäjille.
Mutta kaiken kaikkiaan oli helpotus, että tämä lempeä, vanha mies pääsi vaivoistaan, joista oli kärsinyt pitkään. Jo kolme vuotta sitten tavatessamme kunto oli sairauksien takia melko huono. 
Sri Lankassa on käytössä myös polttohautaus perinteisen hautauksen ohella.
 
The grandfather, atsi, in the family of our friends had been ill for a long time, until he passed away a week ago. In Sri Lanka the accompanying of the deceased to his final resting place takes many days (3-4 d). The deceased is placed in his own home, beautifully dressed, on a white bed (the sides of which are finally folded up, thus making it into a coffin). In this clay house, there was only just enough space for the bed in the only room. The family, relatives and the people of the whole village come to pay their last respects to the deceased, after which the deceased is layed to rest to the grave. Dilip, the father of the family, stayed up near his father all the time until the burial. The funeral, with all the arrangements, is very expensive in relation to how much money one usually has to spend. Also, for example, flowers, lights, incense, oils and fans are included. The members of the household also pay for the refreshments served for those saying farewell.
But, on the whole, it was a relief that this gentle, old man was released from his pains, from which he had been suffering for a long time. On meeting him three years ago, his condition was already rather poor because of the illnesses.
In Sri Lanka, cremation is also practiced together with the traditional burial.

Oppimiselle mahdollisuus Opportunity for Learning

Uuden keräysluvan turvin koulunkäynti on edelleen turvattu. Tilin muututtua yritystiliksi keräyslupa on jatkuva. Se vaatii kuitenkin meiltä vastuullisilta enemmän työtä ja myös tilinhoitokulut nousivat huomattavasti. Mielellään kuitenkin teemme tätä iloa ja oppimista tukevaa työtä ja haluamme taata koulutuksen mahdollisuuden ja kenties sen myötä paremman tulevaisuuden. However, it will demand more work from us responsible, and the account management costs also increased considerably. Nevertheless, we are pleased to do this work supporting joy and learning and we want to guarantee the opportunity for education and perhaps, along with it, a better future.

  Olemme jälleen saaneet yksityisiltä sekä yhteistyökumppaneiltamme, mm. FennO- Optiikalta ja Jyväs-Optiikalta, runsaasti silmälaseja, joita on tällä hetkellä kasassa jo 450 kpl. Pakkailen niitä matkalaukkuun odottamaan seuraavaa matkaa; mielessä auringon lämpö  ja ihanat, iloiset ihmiset...antaahan se aavistuksen verran mukavaa tunnetta rintaan ja nostaa hyviä muistoja pintaan aiemmista matkoista silmälasilastien kanssa.   😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎🙋🌞🌞🌞   We have once again received plenty of glasses, amounting to 450 pcs at present, from private individuals and our cooperation partners, for example Fenno Optiikka and Jyväs-Optiikka. I am packing them to a suitcase to wait for the next trip; the warmth of the sun and lovely, happy people in my mind...it surely gives you a nice feeling inside, even slightly, and raises good memories of the earlier trips with loads of glasses.
