Onpas aika kulunut paperihommia tehdessä ja lupia odotellessa!
Huolimatta siitä, että valtakunnallinen keräyslupapaperi on vielä jossain välillä, lahjoittajia on ilmaantunut ilman minkäänlaista vetoamista ja mainontaa. Sana kiertää, maine kiirii. Eräs ystäväni halusi tehdä vapaaehtoistyöstä jutun Kauppasuomi-lehteen ja pyysi minulta haastattelua siihen. Jutusta tuli todella lämminhenkinen ja mukava kuvineen kaikkineen. Jollakin lailla siitä kuvastui se Sri Lankan lempeä lämpö ja ystävälliset hymyt.
Kiitos kuuluu lahjoittajille, että Telluschoolin opettaja on saanut joka kuukausi palkkansa ja jopa materiaalikuluihin on voitu lähettää vähän rahaa. En voi edes tässä vielä mainita tilinumeroa, koska haluan edetä niinkuin oikein on. Mutta kunhan lupa postilaatikosta putoaa, niin sitten heti kerron enemmän:)
How time has passed with doing paperwork and waiting for licences!
In spite of the fact that the national collection licence is still somewhere in between, donors keep turning up, even without any appeals or advertising. People spread the word, reputation is growing. One of my friends wanted to write an article about voluntary work for Kauppasuomi newspaper and asked for my interview for that. The story conveyed a really warm and nice feeling with its pictures and all. Somehow it reflected Sri Lanka’s gentle warmth and friendly smiles.
It is thanks to our donors that Telluschool’s teacher has received her salary every month and we have even been able to send some money for the material expenses. Yet, I cannot even mention the account number here as I wish to proceed in the correct way. But as soon as the licence drops through the letterbox, I will tell you more☺.
Ensimmäisessä Telluschoolissa opetus sujuu hyvin ja lapset saavat entistä enemmän tutustua englanninkielen ja matematiikan saloihin.
Toisesta koulusta haaveillaan jo kovasti ja sille olisi paikkakin toisessa kylässä. Paikallinen maanomistaja on luvannut maataan sopivan kokoisen pläntin tähän tarkoitukseen. Sitten (jos) kun varoja karttuu ja toista koulurakennusta päästään rakentamaan, se ei jälleenkään tule olemaan kallis, kuten ei ollut ensimmäinenkään.
Myös välipala-asiaa olemme suunnitelleet. Mitä se olisi...ihan ruokako vai jotain
juoma, leipä, hedelmä-tyyppistä pikkusyötävää. Siellä on kyllä melkoisen tarkat ruoka- ja
teeajat, joten sekin kai vähän vaikuttaa siihen, mikä lopultakin toteutuu.
Kunhan pääsen paikan päälle, on helpompi alkaa konkreettisemmin suunnitella ja toteuttaa asiaa yhteisvoimin Dilipin perheen kanssa.
Dilipin vaimo Dulini on todella taitava kokki ja haluaa olla työssä mukana. Hän onkin sanonut, että elämän ihanimmat asiat ovat lapset ja ruuanlaitto:)
At the first Telluschool, teaching goes well and the children are getting more and more acquainted with the secrets of the English language and mathematics. We are dreaming about the second school very much, and there is even a place for it in another village. The local landowner has agreed to give a suitable plot of his land for this purpose. If and when we receive enough funds to start building the second school, it will not be expensive as neither was the first one.
We have also been planning on starting to provide snacks. What would it be…a proper meal or a light snack like a drink, piece of bread, fruit. They have pretty strict meal and tea times there, which probably affects the plan to be realised eventually. When I finally get there on the spot, it will be easier to plan and realise the matter together with Dilip’s family. Dilip’s wife Dulini is a very good cook and willing to participate in the work. She has said that the most wonderful things in life are children and cooking☺.

Se tehdään melkeinpä pelkästään kookoksesta, lisänä vähän riisijauhoa. Teen kanssa se on maukasta syötävää.
Tekijästä riippuen sen makeus vaihtelee aikalailla.
Making the “Halapa” pasty early in the morning and, of course, on the floor ;). It is made almost entirely of coconut, just a little bit of rice flour added. With tea, it is very tasty. Depending on the maker, its sweetness varies quite a lot.
Take away-ruokaa. Hyvää ja vahvasti maustettua.

Sri Lankassa on todella monenlaisia hedelmiä ihan omasta takaa, osa pieniä ja vaatimattomankin näköisiä mutta hyviä ja ravinteikkaita. Sitten on taas noita tuontituotteita, kuten omenat ja appelsiinit/mandariinit; ne ovatkin huomattavasti kaalliimpia.
Sri Lanka has a huge variety of local fruits, some of them small and modest looking but good and rich in nutrients. Then, there are also imported produce, like apples, oranges/mandarins, but they are much more expensive.
Inkivääritee olisi yksi hyvä välipalajuoma lapsille koulupäivän tuoksinassa.
Antaa energiaa ja on vatsalle todella hyvä.
Ginger tea would be one good snack drink for the children in the hustle and bustle of the school day. It gives energy and is really good for your stomach.
Mikäpä ettei tätä voisi tarjota lapsille; yrttijuoma! Yrtit omasta pihapiiristä tietenkin.
Vai taitaa ollakin niin, että tämä kuuluu juoda aamulla tyhjään vatsaan. (Oli muuten todella hyvää!) Ohessa syötiin tuollaisia ruskeasta sokerista itse tehtyjä palasia, pehmeitä ja aivankuin fariinin ja hunajan sekoitusta.
Why not give this to the children: an herbal drink! Herbs from one’s own yard, of course. Although it might be that this is supposed to be drunk in the morning to the empty stomach. (By the way, it was really good!). It was served with these home-made bits of brown sugar, soft and like a mixture of brown sugar and honey.

Tänäänkin laitoin itselleni juuri tuossa kuvassa olevassa padassa porisevaa öljyä iholle. Niin ihana tuoksu!
You can also boil the coconut milk to make health products for your skin and hair. Today, I once again put that oil boiling in the pot in this photo on my skin. Such a lovely scent!
Mutta olisiko banaanit sitten kuitenkin ne näkyvimmät ja makeimmat hedelmät siellä...
