Se on vanha iloinen perinne, joka on saanut alkunsa useita vuosisatoja sitten. Silloin Buddhan hammas tuotiin maahan ja sitä on pidetty aina pyhänä.
Sen muistoksi järjestetään joka vuosi heinä-elokuussa noin 10 päivän ajan suuria ja äänekkäitä kulkueita ympäri maan. Pääkulkueet ovat maan keskiosassa Kandyssä.
Kulkueissa on mukana kaikenikäisiä vauvasta vaariin ja siinä voi nähdä monenlaisia rooliasuja ja temppuilua; ruoskalla soittajia, tanssijoita, puujaloilla kävelijöitä, tuliesityksiä, rummuttajia, paljon viuhkoin ja monenlaisin värikkäin koristein somistettuja polkupyöriä, jotka ajavat kulkueen edessä ja paljon muuta.
Jokaisella koululla on oma kulkueensa ja niinpä myös Telluschool osallistui juhlaan ja ilonpitoon.

festival
It is an ancient, joyful tradition dating back
several centuries when the Sacred Tooth Relic of the Buddha was brought to the
country, and it has always been treated as sacred. To commemorate the occasion,
each year in July-August huge and noisy parades are organised all over the
country for about 10 days. The main parades are in Kandy, the central part of
the country.
The processions
include all ages from babies to grandfathers, featuring many kinds of costumes
and juggling: whip crackers, dancers, walkers on stilts, fire performances,
drummers, bicycles decorated with fans and many kinds of colourful ornaments in
front of the parade and lots more. Every school has a parade of its own and,
therefore, Telluschool also participated in the festivities and merrymaking.
Kulkueessa esitellään esimerkiksi eri ammatteja ja mukana on kaikenlaista rekvisiittaa.
The parade
represents, for example, different professions including all sorts of
properties.

Jokaisella koululla on oma kylttinsä ja sitä kannetaan kulkueen etupäässä.

a sign of its own, and it is carried in front of the parade.
Nahkaruoskia (pienemmillä paksua köyttä) heilutetaan samaan tahtiin ja välillä se paukautetaan maahan. Se on upean kuuloista, kuin musiikkia, kun se tehdään tahdissa. Jo pienet pojat osaavat sen ihmeen hyvin:)
Leather whips (thick ropes with smaller ones) are waved at the same pace, and occasionally cracked to the ground. It is a magnificent sound, like music, when it is done in step. Even small boys can do it surprisingly well:)

Along the way
there are spectators and refreshments for the participants in the parade so
that one can walk through the village in the heat.
Koulukin on koristeltu asiaankuuluvasti paperisin, värikkäin lyhdyin.
Perhet osallistuvat kulkueisiin ja koko päivän juhlaan pienimmästä isoimpaan, nuorimmasta vanhimpaan.

The school is
also properly decorated with colourful paper lanterns. Families take part in
the parades and the celebration throughout the day, from the smallest to the
biggest, from the youngest to the oldest.

school teachers.
