Sri Lankalla on ulkonaliikkumiskielto päällä, niinkuin jo tiedämmekin.
Maan pohjoisosan koronavirustihentymän takia siellä on ns. ulkonaliikkumispäiviä silloin tällöin, max. 1 krt viikossa, etelässä sen sijaan useammin, jopa 2 krt viikossa. Näistä päivistä ilmoitetaan aina edellisen päivän uutisissa. Päivillä ei välttämättä ole mitään logiikkaa.
Koulumme paikallinen isäntäperhe haluaa tehdä hyvää myös tänä kieltojen aikana. Niinpä Dilip meni läheiselle Rathgaman poliisilaitokselle kysymään lupaa läheisten rantojen siivoukseen muovista ja muusta roskasta. Lupa tuli, myös sellaiselle päivälle, jolloin ei muuten saisi liikkua ulkona.
Ei muuta kuin haravat ja luutat heilumaan!
Rathgaman kylän väkeä, myös oppilaitamme oli mukana tapahtumassa ja kuten alla olevista kuvista näkee, ranta ehostuu kummasti ja luonto kiittää ❤

Because of the outbreak's severity in the northern part of the country, there are occasional days when one can move outside one's home, max. once a week, however, in the south more often, even twice a week. These days are always announced on the news of the previous day. These days do not necessarily follow any logic.
The local family looking after our schools wants to do good even in the times of bans. So, Dilip went to the nearby Rathgama police station to ask for permission to clean the beaches from plastic and other rubbish. The permission was granted, also for a day when one is not otherwise allowed to move about.
Now it is the time to have rakes and brooms swinging!
The people of the Rathgama village as well as our pupils participated in the happening, and as you can see from the photos below, the beach is looking cleaner than ever and nature is thanking you.
Wooden rubbish was burnt close to the beach. Recycling waste actually ended up to be recycled. The police were happy as this action had easened the waste collectors' work. Dilip contacted the place concerned and informed them the spots where they could collect the recycling waste ready piled up.

Roskakasoista eroteltiin muovipullot, varvassandaalit, aurinkorasvaputkilot yms. kierrätysjäte.
From the rubbish piles, plastic bottles, flip-flops, sun lotion tubes and other recycling waste were separated.
Puu-yms. roska poltettiin rannan tuntumassa.
Kierrätysroska päätyi sen sijaan oikeasti kierrätykseen. Poliisi oli tyytyväinen, kun jätekerääjien työ näin helpottui. Dilip oli yhteydessä ko. paikkaan ja ilmoitti paikat, josta kierrätysjätteet voi hakea valmiiksi kasattuina.

Rannan tuntumassa työskennellessä oli hyvä välillä vähän vilvoitela vedessä ja siinä sai muuta mukavaa ajateltavaa tänä vaikeana aikana, niin lapset kuin aikuisetkin :)

Kuvista hohkaa lämmin yhteisyys ja ilo :)
Aikaisemmin, kun vapaaehtoisemme olivat vielä paikalla ja koulut toiminnassa, suunnitelmissa oli ottaa juuri ympäristönhoito yhdeksi tärkeäksi teemaksi oppilaidemme ja heidän perheidensä kanssa.
Dilip toteutti sen kaikesta huolimatta.
Koronatilanteessa voi olla monta eri mielipidettä, onko tällainen toiminta järkevää juuri nyt.
Rannat ovat tyhjät ja autiot ja kun kylän väki asuu todella tiiviisti, uskon että tapahtuma ei ainakaan lisännyt tartunnan uhkaa.

Earlier when our volunteers were still present and the schools operating, we had made plans to include the
care of the environment as one important theme with our pupils and their families. Dilip carried out this plan in spite of everything.
In the corona situation one may have many different opinions of whether this kind of action is sensible right now. Beaches are empty and deserted and as the village people are living in close quarters, I believe that this happening did not at least increase the risk of catching the infection.

During the days without restrictions on movement, fishermen are able to catch food for their families and, the amount of catch permitting, also for the village community, from the sea.
