Elämme kevättä 2020 ja maailma on mullin mallin. Korona-virus valtaa maailmaa yhä laajemmin ja monen maan tavallinen arki on sekaisin.
Niin on Sri Lankallakin. Siellä on tällä hetkellä ulkonaliikkumiskielto aina tiistaista sunnuntaihin ja sitten maanantaina saa käydä kodin ulkopuolella klo 6-14 (aika voi vaihdella myös). Silloin voi hoitaa pankki- ja kauppa-asiat...jos on rahaa. Todella moni on hyvin vaikeassa tilanteessa, kun työt ovat totaalisesti loppuneet eikä rahaa tule mistään yhtään rupiaa.
Olemme päättäneet yhdessä Dilipin perheen ja saksalaisen Anja-ystävämme kanssa, että kolmen opettajan palkan lisäksi autamme lahjoitusvaroilla Telluschoolin köyhimpiä perheitä ruuan hankinnassa.
Meressä olisi kalaa, mutta perheiden isät eivät pääse kalastamaan, koska eivät voi liikkua kodin ulkopuolella. Pienissäkin sivukylissä kulkee poliiseja ja armeijan väkeä partioimassa, että liikkumiskieltoa noudatetaan.
Kertauksena kerron, että saksalainen Anja tukee myös kouluamme. Hän on päätyönsä lisäksi myös joogaopettaja ja hänellä on ainakin kolme eri opetusryhmää Saksassa Frankfurtissa.
Ryhmien osallistumismaksut tulevat pääosin Telluschoolille. Myös hänen lähisukunsa haluaa olla mukana tukemassa koulumme toimintaa.
Tämä on varsinaista lähimmäisenrakkautta, niiden kaukaisten lähimmäisten. Sydämellinen kiitos koko Saksan porukalle :)

We are living the spring 2020 and the world is upside down. The coronavirus is spreading wider and
wider in the world and in many countries the everyday life is in confusion. So is the case in Sri Lanka,
too. At the moment the lockdown lasts from Tuesday until Sunday and then, on Monday, one can go
outside home at 6-14 (the time may also vary). Then it is possible to take care of bank affairs and do the
shopping...if one has money. Really many people are in an extremely difficult situation when working has
totally finished and one is not getting any money, not a single rupee.
Together with Dilip's family and our German friend Anja we have decided that, in addition to the salaries
of three teachers, we will provide food aid to Telluschool's poorest families using the donation funds.
There is plenty of fish in the sea but the fathers of the families cannot go fishing because they cannot
move outside their home. Even in the smallest villages there are policemen and army people patrolling
and checking that the lockdown is being obeyed.
As I have earlier told you, Anja from Germany is also supporting our school. In addition to her main job,
she is also a yoga teacher and she has at least three different teaching groups in Frankfurt in Germany.
The participation fees of the groups are mainly donated to Telluschool. Her near relatives also want to
participate in supporting our school. This is real love for one's neighbour, for those fellowmen far away.
Hearty thanks for all the people in Germany :)
We will survive from this even though it does not feel like it all the time, and sometimes the situation may
even cause a little distress.
Vapaaehtoisemme Natasha ja Ville palasivat Suomeen tällä viikolla. Tilanne jo arkisen elonkin kannalta meni paikan päällä liian haastavaksi, joten oli paras palata kotiin. Harmillista, että työ keskeytyi melkein ennenkuin alkoikaan, mutta sille me kukaan emme voineet mitään. Lämmin kiitos heille hyvin alkaneesta työstä!
Myös lisäksi Viivi, jonka piti aloittaa oma työjaksonsa kouluillamme maaliskuussa, joutui perumaan matkansa.
Kyllä me tästä selviämme, vaikka joka hetki se ei siltä tunnukaan ja välillä tilanne saattaa jopa vähän ahdistaa.
Our voluntary workers, Natasha and Ville, returned to Finland this week. The situation became too
challenging for everyday life and so it was best to return home. What a pity that they had to stop working
almost before getting started, but none of us could help it. Warm thanks for their well initiated work!
Also, Viivi who was supposed to start her own work period at our schools in March had to cancel her trip.
In my future update I will tell you about the distribution of food aid when actual :)
