Tässä tehdään suunnitelmia ikkunoiden kuljettamiseksi 10 km:n päähän Rejjipuran koululle. Tämä puusepän verstas on todella jyrkän rinteen alla kapean hiekkatien mutkan takana, eikä sinne kovin iso auto edes pääse. Ikkunoiden karmit pitää rakentaa paikan päällä koululla ja sen jälkeen ikkunat voi asentaa paikalleen.

Here, plans for transporting the windows to the distance of 10 km to Rejjipura school are made. This joiner's workshop is situated under a really steep slope behind a curve of a narrow gravel road, and a big lorry cannot even get there. The window frames must be built on the spot at the school, after which the windows can be installed in place.

Es ist geplant die Fenster 10 km zur Rejjipura Schule zu transportieren. Die Arbeitsstätte des Zimmermanns ist am Ende eines steilen Abhangs hinter einer schmalen Sanddüne, es es gibt kein großes Auto zum Transportieren. Daher müssen die Fensterrahmen in der Schule Vorort gebaut werden und danach können die Fenster installiert werden.

Yksi koulun tukijoista on saksalainen Anja. Hän vei koululle tuliaisina puhallettavia maapalloja. Ja nepä herättivätkin kovasti innostusta tutkia, missä on Suomi, Saksa ja monet muut maat.

Anja, a German, is one of our school supporters. She brought inflatable globes as presents to the school. They arouse much interest to study the locations of Finland, Germany and many other countries.

Eine der Unterstützer der Schule ist Anja, eine Deutsche. Sie brachte diese Bälle (Globusse) mit zur Schule. Die Schulkinder waren sehr aufgeregt auf diesen Finnland, Sri Lanka, Deutschland und andere Länder zu finden.

Pallo on sellainen tavara, että sillä voi tehdä monenlaista puuhaa. Nämä pallot ovat oivia välineitä maantiedossa, liikunnassa, matematiikassa...monenlaisessa vuorovaikutusta kehittävässä asiassa. 

Hieno idea Anjalta, kiitos siitä!

A ball is a versatile thing, allowing to do many kind of activities. These balls are good instruments in geography, sports, mathematics...in many issues developing interaction. A splendid idea from Anja, much appreciated!

Bälle machen viel Spaß! Diese Bälle sind coole Werkzeuge für Geographie, Sportübungen, Mathematik… für eine Vielzahl von interaktionsfördernden Themen. Tolle Idee von Anja, danke dafür!

Muovipallon hinta näkyy olevan 650 rupiaa eli noin 3,50€ tämän hetken kurssin mukaan.

A plastic ball costs 650 rupees, i.e. € 3.50 at the current rate.

Kaikkialla maailmassa lapset haluavat kuulla satuja ja kertomuksia...ja onhan tuo oiva keino harjoituttaa englannin kielen taitoa.

Uusia koulupöytiä ja -penkkejä varten on hankittu puutavaraa. 

Sahalta se homma alkaa. Tuosta puunpätkästä saa monta koulupöydän pintalautaa.

Timber has been acquired for new school tables and benches. The job starts from the sawmill. That piece of wood will provide many slabs for a school table.

Holz für neue Schultische und Bänke wurde erworben. Die Erstellung fängt an mit einem Baumstamm, aus dem viele Tischplatten gefertigt werden.

 Ja hyvinhän ne sahatut puut kuivuvatkin auringonpaahteessa.

And the sawn timber will also dry well in the sun.

Tiedoksenne vielä, että keräämme silmälaseja ihan koko ajan! Jospa niitä taas kertyisi seuraavaan reissuun satoja, satoja...

For your information, we are continuously collecting spectacles!

Perhaps we will get hundreds and hundreds of them for the next trip...

Terveyden edistämistä! Improving health! Gesundheitsförderung

Aikaisemminkin koulumme toimintaan osallistunut Mirja on jälleen ollut kertomassa ja opettamassa vanhemmille, opettajille sekä ennen kaikkea oppilaillemme ja heidän sisaruksilleen hampaiden hoidon tärkeää taitoa.

Ihan vasta oli suomalaisessa mediassa uutinen siitä, miten monet pelkäävät hammaslääkärissä käyntiä. Telluschoolin oppilaat sen sijaan jonottavat päästäkseen "käsittelyyn" :) Sama ilmiö toistui aiemmin, kun oli lääkärintarkastus.

Mirja, who has participated in our school's operations earlier, has once again visited us to tell and teach parents, teachers and, most importantly, our pupils and their siblings the important skill of dental care. Fairly recently, there was a piece of news on the Finnish media that many people are afraid of going to the dentist. Whereas the Telluschool pupils are queuing for ”treatment” ☺. We experienced the same phenomenon earlier when we had the medical examination.

Zuerst hat Mirja, die unsere Schule unterstützt, den Eltern, Lehrern und vor allem unseren Schülern und ihren Geschwistern die wichtigen Punkte zahnärztlicher Vorsorge erklärt.

Gerade stand in den finnischen Medien wie viele Menschen Angst davor haben einen Zahnarzt aufzusuchen. Die Telluschool Schüler stehen stattdessen Schlange für eine „Behandlung“. Das gleiche Phänomen konnte man sehen, als finnische Ärzte die Menschen hier behandelt haben.

Suomesta kuljetetut 600 silmälasiparia ovat kohteessa ja pian ne saavat uudet, onnelliset omistajat. Ystäväperheemme lapsetkin ovat jo oppineet, kuinka lajittelu tapahtuu ja monetko silmälasit kannattaa ottaa mukaan mihinkin tilaisuuteen.

The 600 pairs of spectacles transported from Finland are now on the spot and soon they will get new, happy owners. The children in the family of our friends already know how to sort them and how many glasses to take to various occasions.

600 gebrauchte Brillen aus Finnland haben wir bei unserem Besuch mitgebracht und bald bekomme sie neue glückliche Besitzer in Sri Lanka. Die Kinder in der Familie unserer Freunde (Dilip Kumara in dem Dorf Boossa) haben bereits gelernt, wie man die Brillen sortiert.

Sana leviää nopeasti ja laseja tullaan hakemaan kotoa asti. Lapsille se on aina mielenkiintoinen tapahtuma.

The word is spreading fast and people come to fetch glasses even from home. For the childred, it is always an interesting happening.

Die Nachricht über die Verteilung der gebrauchten Brillen aus Finnland verbreitete sich schnell und die jeweilige Brille wird vom neuen Besitzer abgeholt. Dies ist für die Kinder immer wieder ein interessantes Ereignis.

Saimme käydä tutuksi tulleessa vanhainkodissa, jossa oli monia lasien tarvitsijoita. Ihanat vanhukset odottivat ujoina sovitusvuoroaan ja varsinkin naisia sai pyytää monta kertaa siihen miesten sekaan pöydän ympärille.

We were given the opportunity to visit a familiar old people's home where many people were in need of glasses. Lovely old people were waiting shyly for their turn to try on glasses and especially women were asked many times to join the men around the table.

Wir waren auch bei einem Seniorenheim. Die lieben alten Menschen warteten schüchtern bis sie dran waren und besonders die Frauen mussten ermuntert werden auch an die Tische zu kommen, um sich eine Brille auszusuchen.

Kävimme ensimmäisen kerran tässä vanhainkodissa kuusi vuotta aiemmin, silloin ruuanvalmistuksen merkeissä. Nyt asuintaloissa oli remontti meneillään, mutta sama mukavan rauhaisa tunnelma siellä vallitsi ja kaikki olivat tyytyväisiä remontinkin keskellä.

We visited this old people's home for the first time six years ago, cooking being the main reason for the visit then. Now, the residential houses were under repair, but still there was the same peaceful atmosphere and everybody was happy even in the midst of repair.

Wir waren vor sechs Jahren zum ersten Mal in diesem Senioren- bzw. Pflegeheim, damals um Essen zu spenden. Seitdem wurden die Räume renoviert, aber es herrscht immer noch die gleiche friedliche Athmosphäre. Alle waren glücklich über die Brillen.

Myös majapaikkamme luona kävi paikallisia kyselemässä silmälaseja. Pidimme niitä aina sielläkin varalta, isointa osaa kuitenkin ystäväperheessämme. 

Locals also came to our lodgings for spectacles. We were keeping some there, just in case, however, the major part was in the family of our friends.

Auch an unseren Wohnort (bei unseren Freunden im Dorf Boossa) haben Einheimische nach Brillen gefragt. 

Rejjipuran Telikadan poliisilaitoksella olimme myös jälleen kokemassa iloa.

At the Rejjipura's Telikada police station we were again sharing the feeling of joy.

Auch die Angestellten der Polizei haben sich wieder einmal über die Brillen gefreut.

 Noin kahden tunnin aikana siellä kävi yli sata kyläläistä. 

Tässä kuvassa nuori naispoliisi kokeilee, josko löytyisi sopivat aurinkolasit. Liikennettä valvoessa niitä tarvitsee.

During about two hours, over a hundred villagers visited there. In this photo a young police woman is looking for suitable sun glasses. They are needed in traffic control.

In Laufe von zwei Stunden waren über hundert Dorfbewohner da.

Im Bild oben versucht eine junge Polizistin eine geeignete Sonnenbrille zu finden. Sie benötigt die Brille, während sie den Verkehr kontrolliert.

Dilip, unser Freund und Gründer der Telluschool, hat an jedem Ort, an dem wir Brillen verteilt haben, mitgeholfen.

Vasemmalla lehteä lukeva mummo ei meinannut lopettaa lukemista ollenkaan...

Die Großmutter, die die Zeitung liest, hörte gar nicht mehr auf zu lesen….

...ja ilmeestä päätellen hän ei ollut aikaisemmin pitkään aikaan nähnyt lehden tekstiä. 

and judging from her expression, she had been unable to read the paper for a long time.

Die Lobeshymnen, die Umarmungen und die Augen spiegeln die Freude und Begeisterung wider. Die Herzen müssen beim Anblick dieser wunderbaren Großmutter einfach schmelzen. 

Ja meistä kyllä huolehdittiin joka paikassa todella hyvin...ja ravinteikkaasti!
