Telluschool ja kaikki hankkeessa mukana olevat haluamme kiittää kaikkia lahjoittajia monen koulupaikan mahdollistamisesta heille, joille se ei muuten olisi mahdollista. Näin me yhdessä parannamme kukin pieneltä osin maailmaa; lähimmäistemme elämää ja tulevaisuuden mahdollisuuksia.
Osalle lahjoittajista on lähtenyt henkilökohtainen kirje, mutta on myös teitä ihania ihmisiä, joita emme edes tunne. Näin tätä kautta lähtee myös teille suurkiitos tähänastisesta avustanne!

Telluschool and all the people involved in the project wish to thank all our donors for making it possible to provide many school places for those who would not otherwise have this opportunity. Together we can make the world a little bit better place; by improving the life and future prospects of our fellowmen.

We have sent a personal letter to some of the donors, but there are also many wonderful people who we do not even know. In this way we want to express our greatest thanks to you, too, for your help up to now!

With the card drawn by Umasha, one of our pupils, we wish all our donors a Happy and Safe New Year 2016! Keep the warmth and care which you have shown to others in this way in your hearts.

Sitten kaikki vain katolle kuuntelemaan opettajien puhetta.

Myöhemmässä vaiheessa tähän rakennetaan toinen kerros, johon tulee pari majoitushuonetta vapaaehtoistyöntekijöille sekä pieni keittiö. Haaveena on, että varojen karttuessa pystyisimme tarjoamaan lapsille välipalaa, joten keittiö olisi siinäkin tapauksessa tarpeen.

Then, everybody gathered to the roof to listen to the teachers’ speech. Later on, another floor will be built here, including a couple of rooms for the accommodation of volunteer workers and a small kitchen. If we get enough funds, we hope to be able to offer snacks for the children, and so the kitchen will be necessary for that purpose as well.

Reilussa viikossa koulun toiminta alkaa ja kaikki on silloin enemmän tai vähemmän valmista.
Within about a week, the school will start its operations and everything will be more or less ready.

Boossan koulun pihassa oli valmiina materiaalia Rejjipuran koulun kalusteita varten.

Myös ikkuna- ja ovipuut ovat valmiina ja siitä on hyvä puusepän alkaa niitä tekemään.

In the Boossa school yard there was material ready for the furniture of the Rejjipura village school.

Timber for windows and doors was also available for the carpenter to start making them.

Aattoaamuna laiteltiin joulukoristeita ja valoja pihapuihin ja pensaisiin.

In the morning of Christmas Eve we hung Christmas decorations and lights to the trees and bushes in the yard.

Koulua koristeltiin sisältäkin, koska olihan juhlapäivä.
The school was also decorated inside as it was the anniversary day.

Äitejä oli paikalla myös.
There were mothers present, too.



Tarjolla oli milkricea ja kahdenlaisia kookos-riisijauhokakkaroita sekä pikkubanaaneja.

Hyvin maistuivat.

Milk rice, two kinds of coconut-rice flour pastries and small bananas were served. Everything was thoroughly enjoyed.



  Mehutarjoilun lisäksi lapsilla oli omia vesipulloja mukana, että jano ei yllättäisi.

In addition to the juice service, children had taken their own water bottles with them in case of thirst. 

Tämä tyttö oli laittautunut erityisen hienoksi ja syykin selvisi. Hän nimittäin piti pienen englanninkielisen puheen juhlassa, jonka saman puheen toinen tyttö sen jälkeen puhui sinhalan kielellä.

This girl had dressed up and the reason became clear. She made a small speech in English at the party and the same speech was then made by another girl in Sinhalese.

Perheet, opettaja ja Dilipin perhe olivat keränneet rahaa ja ostaneet minulle hopeisen kaulakorun. Hetki oli todella liikuttava ja yllättävä.

The families, the teacher and Dilip’s family had collected money and bought me a small silver necklace. The moment was truly emotional and surprising.

Jouluaattoiltana koulun juhlan jälkeen olimme koko perheellä syömässä merenrannalla.

Siinäkin syödessäni ajattelin omaa perhettäni Suomessa ja ikävöin.

Ruokailun jälkeen juoksentelimme rantavedessä ja nautimme siitä sametinpehmeästä pimeästä ja lämmöstä, jota meren aallot sopivasti viilensivät.

In the evening of Christmas Eve, after the school party, all the family was having dinner on the beach. While eating I was thinking about my own family in Finland and was missing them. After dinner, we were running in the water on the beach and enjoying the soft, velvet-like darkness and the warmth, which was nicely cooled by ocean waves.

Tämä mainio luonnontuote on raaka-aineena kaikissa ruuissa Sri Lankassa. Ja siksi kai se ruoka onkin niin hyvää!

This useful natural product is the raw material for every dish in Sri Lanka. And I suppose that is why the food tastes so good!

Onnellisia löytäjiä Happy finders

Niin monet ihmiset, joille olen asiasta maininnut, ovat ottaneet haasteen vastaan ja keränneet silmälaseja, joille on kysyntää Sri Lankassa.  

Näissä tilanteissa on monta makutuomaria mukana ja siinä pääsee hyvin kommunikoimaan, sanoin tai sitten elein, paikallisten kanssa. Kaikki ovat iloisia.

So many people to whom I have mentioned the matter have accepted the challenge and collected eye glasses, which are in great demand in Sri Lanka.

On these occasions there are many judges in matters of taste, and it is a good opportunity to communicate with locals, either in words or gestures. Everybody is happy.

Myös muualta tulevat ihanat ihmiset, jotka tekevät vapaaehtoisesti työtä kyläläisten hyväksi. Tässä kooste Veeran, Laurin ja apujoukkojen toimintapäivästä Rejjipurassa.

Also, wonderful people come from other parts of the world and volunteer to work for the good of the villagers. Here is a summary of the action day of Veera, Lauri and assisting teams in Rejjipura.

Joel on päässyt syksyisen koululla suorittamansa työrupeaman päälle vielä kirjuriksi terveystarkastustilaisuudessa.

In addition to the working period in the school in the autumn, Joel was charged with the task of recording at the medical examination occasion.

Joillakin oli mukana tarkka kirjanpito terveysasioistaan.

Some people had brought thorough records of their medical history with them.

Kaikista tutkituista tehtiin kortti jatkoa ajatellen. Varmemmaksi vakuudeksi korttiin laitettiin vielä koulun leima.

A card was prepared of all the people examined for future use. To be on the safe side, the school stamp was also put on the card.

Tutkittavaksi tulijoita oli vauvasta vanhuksiin. Tässä ylpeä isoäiti, attamma.

The people to be examined ranged from babies to the elderly. Here is a proud grandmother, attamma.

Ja välipalaksi ravitsevaa juomaa suoraan puusta!

And for a snack, a nutritious drink straight from the tree!

Vesihuoltokin toimi hienosti.

Water supply was functioning smoothly.

Samaan aikaan uuden koulun avajaisia valmisteltiin ja paikkoja laiteltiin kuntoon.

At the same time, preparations were made for the opening of the new school and the place was put in order.

Tukibambut on ja saatu pois ja katto kestää!!!

It has been possible to take away the supporting bamboos and the roof holds!!!

Tässä tulee olemaan kaksi luokkahuonetta, joissa opiskelee kummassakin kerrallaan noin 50 oppilasta. Katon puuosien purku ja lattian valu on ihan näinä päivinä ja koulun aloitus on 11.1.2016.

This area will have two classrooms, each including about 50 pupils at a time. The wooden parts of the roof will be taken down and the floor will be laid at any day now and the school will start operating on 11 January 2016.
