Tämän kodin vuoro on saada remonttiapua. Uusi ovi rakennetaan pian ja sen voi sitten sulkea kunnolla yön ajaksi. Oman kylän miehet mittailevat ja suunnittelevat, mitä materiaalia tarvitaan. Sitten Dilip hankkii  ne.

Tämän perheen isä ei pysty tällä hetkellä olemaan remontissa mukana.

 

It is this home's turn to get repair help. A new door will be built soon, enabling its proper closure for the night. The men of their own village will measure and plan what materials are needed. Then, Dilip will get them. The father of this family is unable to take part in the repair at the moment.

ja sinne rakennetaan mm. tämän lattialla olevan "hellan" tilalle kunnollinen tulipaikka ruuanlaittoa varten.

Ruoka-apua vanhuksille Food Aid for Old People

Thanks to our donors, we have once again been able to provide food aid for the old people's home in the Boossa village.

Mukava myös huomata, että vanhusten kesken vallitsee hyvä koronalta suojautuminen. Vain syödessä otetaan maski pois!

It is also nice to see that good Covid19 protection prevails among the old people. Only when eating, they remove their face mask.

 

Silmälasikeräys on voimassa kaiken aikaa! Collection of eyeglasses is valid all the time!

 

Olemme jälleen saaneet yksityisiltä sekä yhteistyökumppaneiltamme, mm. FennO- Optiikalta ja Jyväs-Optiikalta, runsaasti silmälaseja, joita on tällä hetkellä kasassa jo 450 kpl.

Pakkailen niitä matkalaukkuun odottamaan seuraavaa matkaa; mielessä auringon lämpö ja ihanat, iloiset ihmiset...antaahan se aavistuksen verran mukavaa tunnetta rintaan ja nostaa hyviä muistoja pintaan aiemmista matkoista silmälasilastien kanssa.

We have once again received plenty of glasses, amounting to 450 pcs at present, from private individuals and our cooperation partners, for example Fenno Optiikka and Jyväs-Optiikka.

I am packing them to a suitcase to wait for the next trip; the warmth of the sun and lovely, happy people in my mind...it surely gives you a nice feeling inside, even slightly, and raises good memories of the earlier trips with loads of glasses.

 

Onni on uusi koulureppu! Happiness is a new schoolbag!

Uuden kouluvuoden aluksi hankittiin 100 reppua, joista 50 kpl on Telluschool-logolla ja toiset 50 kpl Anja-logolla. Anja on saksalainen nainen, joka on tukenut koulua pitämiensä jooga-tuntien tuloilla. Hän halusi erityisesti avustaa tässä reppuasiassa.

For the start of the new school year, we acquired a 100 backpacks, of which 50 pcs with the Telluschool logo and the other 50 pcs with the Anja logo. Anja is a German lady who has supported our school with the income received from her yoga classes. She especially wanted to help in this bag business.

 

Joulutoivotuksia Christmas Greetings

Tähän aikaan Sri Lankan koulut ovat normaalinakin vuonna kiinni, koska vanha lukuvuosi on loppunut ja uusi alkamassa. Tänä vuonna siihen on tietenkin myös muu syy. 

Korona on levinnyt sielläkin ja kaikki ovat varovaisia, ettei tauti saavuta.

Tarkoitus olisi aloittaa koulut taas tammikuussa, mutta toki on mentävä sen mukaan, mikä on pandemian tilanne.

Olemme avustaneet monella eri tavalla oppilaidemme perheitä siellä kaukana, kuten aiemmin olen jo kertonutkin. Vuoden vaihtuessa ja uuden kouluvuoden alkaessa olemme hankkineet lahjoittamillanne varoilla esim. koulureppuja 100 kpl (joihin tulee Telluschool-logo paikallisen yrittäjän lahjoittamana), lääkkeitä ja joka päivä tarpeellista ruokaa.

At this time of the normal year, Sri Lankan schools are closed anyway as the old school year has ended and the new one is about to start. However, this year there is another reason, too. The coronavirus has also been spreading there and everybody is careful not to catch the disease.

The aim is to start the schools again in January but, of course, one must proceed according to the pandemic situation. 

We have helped the families of our pupils in many different ways there far away as I have told you earlier. At the turn of the year and at the beginning of the new school year, we have used your donation funds to buy, for example, a 100 schoolbags (with the Telluschool logo printed on them, donated by a local       entrepreneur), medicines and everyday food

Koulut taas tauolle  Schools Taking a Break Again

Tuntuu niin surulliselta, kun  korona hallitsee maailmaa ja tilanteet muuttuvat tuon tuosta.

Nyt taas on koulut suljettu Sri Lankassa oltuaan noin kaksi kuukautta toiminnassa.

Kuten jo aiemmin olenkin kertonut, olemme avustaneet perheitä mm. elintarvikkeilla ja hygieniatuotteilla.

Koulussamme oli tullut puheeksi, että myös vanhusten tilanne on huono. Dilip ja koulun väki kysyy aina ensin täältä Suomen päästä, sopisiko joku toiminta tai tapahtuma toteutettavaksi. No, mietimme sitä sitten yhdessä, miten voisimme auttaa myös vanhuksia  ja - mikä mukavinta - liittää se myös opetukselliseksi kokemukseksi lapsille.

Päätimme ostaa ruokatarvikkeita vanhainkotiin. Toisen koulumme kanssa samassa kylässä sijaitseva vanhainkoti on tuttu paikka ja siellä monta kertaa vierailleena tiedän, että se kaipaa myös ulkoiselta olemukseltaan ehostusta ja pientä laittoa. 

Niinpä päätimme hankkia myös maalia. Oli tarkoitus, että koululaiset olisivat opettajineen touhussa mukana kukin taitonsa mukaan ja saisivat auttaa vanhuksia, siivota pihaa ja maalata yhdessä.

Koronatilanteesta johtuen ollaan varovaisia eivätkä lapset nyt sitten kuitenkaan pääse mukaan auttamaan, mutta homma hoituu silti. Dilip lupasi järjestää nuoria maalaamaan ja auttelemaan.

It feels so sad when the coronavirus rules the world and situations keep changing every now and then.

Once again, schools have been closed in Sri Lanka after having been open for two months. As I have told you earlier, we have been helping families by providing, for example, foodstuffs and hygiene products.

In our school they had been talking about the poor situation of the elderly. Dilip and the school staff will always ask first from our end in Finland if it would be possible to carry out some activity or event. Then we pondered it together how to also help old people and – what is the nicest – to make it an educational experience for the children as well.

We decided to buy foodstuffs for the old people's home. This home is a familiar place as it is situated in the same village with our other school, and having visited it for many times I know that its outside also needs some freshening up and a little bit repair. Therefore, we also decided to buy some paint. The intention was to have the pupils and their teachers involved in the happening, each according to their own abilities, and thus get the opportunity to help the elderly, clean the yard and paint together.

Due to the coronavirus situation, we want to be careful and so the children cannot participate in the activity after all. However, the job will be done as Dilip promised to arrange young people to paint and help.

  

Kasvisten ja vihannesten lisäksi asiaan kuuluu aina se tärkein jokapäiväisten aterioiden perusta ja vatsantäyte RIISI.

In addition to vegetables, it is always a must to have the most important basis of everyday meals and filling for the stomach, i.e. RICE.

Koulut ovat jälleen avanneet ovensa Hymyjen saarella Sri Lankalla. Myös koulumme Telluschool on varovaisesti käynnistänyt toimintansa ensin yhdessä kylässä, Rathgamassa ja pikkuhiljaa laajemmin.

Happy news!

Schools have reopened their doors in Sri Lanka, on the island of smiles. Our Telluschool has also started its operations cautiously, first in one village, Rathgama, and gradually on a larger scale.

Voimme vain toivoa, että nämäkin kuvan oppilaamme voivat jatkossa olla taas oppimassa uutta, eikä corona saisi enää otetta kansasta.

Jatkossa pyrimme mahdollisuuksien mukaan, lahjoitusten niin salliessa, avustamaan edelleen varattomimpia perheitä esim. peruselintarvikkein, kuten riisi ja vihannekset.

Apunne on pelastanut monen perheen uskomattoman kamalan tilanteen juuri näiden em. avustusten kautta.

We can only hope that our pupils in this photo can stay at school in learning new in the coming days and that the coronavirus will not get a grip on the people.

In future, donation funds permitting, we will still try to help the families with less means by providing basic foodstuffs, like rice and vegetables.
